Alexander Technique and the voice

“If you proceed with the clear understanding of how the voice works—that it is designed to “sing,” and that it is all set in motion by the desire to communicate and express beauty—and you combine this understanding with a balanced “use of the self,” a lot of the problems you meet will sort themselves out. In the process, you will understand more and more that we are, indeed, born to sing.” - Ron Murdock
For those who work with the voice, be it in singing, acting or public speaking, the work with Alexander Technique is very valuable. This Technique developed exactly because of F. M. Alexander's vocal problems and further exploration. The appropriate use of the voice is connected to the whole body from head to toe, especially the head/neck/back connection (Primary Control) but also to the need and desire to communicate and express emotions. This March, in collaboration with the singer Maria João Carmo, we gave a small workshop that once again proved the relevance of this work in relation to vocalization. It invited the singer for less effort, less "doing" and more freedom as he/she became aware of the whole body working together in ease.
